MARTIN MULL

Martin Mull was born in Chicago, raised in Ohio, went to high school in Connecticut, attended art school in Rhode Island and Rome, flew back to Rhode Island to get a master's

degree and finally unpacked in His most successful was "A Girl Boston-for a while.

In 1967, Mull went to work as a producer for a small recording studio. A year later, Warner Bros. hired him to write singles.

Named Johnny Cash" (his answer to Cash's "A Boy Named Sue"). A few years later Mull began to record albums of his own. They included: Martin Mull, Martin Mull & His Fabulous Furniture In Your Living Room, Normal, Days of Wine & Neuroses, and his 1977 ABC debut, "I'm Everyone I Ever Loved."

Mull's latest album is "Sex and Violins." It comes at a time when Mull is becoming a multimedia celebrity of sorts. Following his role in "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" as wife beater Garth Gimble and then as Garth's twin brother Barth on "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," "Forever Fernwood," and "Fernwood 2 Night," Mull is now

starring in another Norman Lear series, "America 2Night." The show, an extension of "Fernwood 2Night," features Mull as the silky smooth talk show host, Barth Gimble. The off-the-wall series, broadcast five times weekly, features mythical guests as well as a host of celebrities. Among the first guests: Charlton Heston, Burt Lancaster, Andy Williams, and Peter Frampton.

In addition to TV, Mull recently completed his first feature film, "FM." He co-stars with Michael Brandon in the movie, which is about the rock music business.

As for music, "Sex & Violins," produced by Mull and Bill Wolt, is comprised of comedy sketches with rather odd messages. Some of those: "I Haven't the Vegas Idea" and "Trailer Waltz." Also featured is "Westward Ho," written by Mull and Steve Martin. Vocalist Melissa Manchester and satirical personality Harry Shearer are among the guests on the album.

Mull continues to work as a painter. He has had showings of his work at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Red Piano Gallery in South Carolina. His work has appeared in Esquire, Crawdaddy, and Gent.

As a performer, Mull has

toured throughout the United States. He has also appeared on such TV shows as "The Mike Douglas Show," "Wonder Woman," "Dinah," "Hollywood Squares," and "The Merv. Griffin Show."

Mull now lives in Malibu.

Ah, yes! And, yes, he'll know his honored flesh Strikes me the flex of flanks,

concave akin

To muscled hands, to stretching

stomach skin:

All such my fingers, lips will tell

afresh.

But I shall need as much the The spleen, intestines, bladders, veins, the blood,

bones beneath,

To know the fine warm tuning of the life,

The source, the mist, the rains,

the wave, the flood. All these must father forth the

soul I bless

Beyond all selfish wish to ap-

prehend.

In these I find the clean agressiveness,

In synonym with me, my manly

friend.

So all is there, all meshed, all

mine, but less Mine is the foremost blessed.. his manly mind.
